Chinx is a journey into the strange, challenging, and often discriminatory world of online hookup culture. Our guide is Del, a 40-something Filipino, stepping out into an unfamiliar dating landscape after years of singlehood and “self- discovery” to find gay hookup apps a place readily designed to exclude people like himself. Largely silent throughout the film, Del’s experience will make manifest the ways in which modern app culture repudiates those who do not conform to the narrow biases the dating world upholds. Facing racially-charged messaging from a variety of men, and seeking solace and encouragement from a friend, Del is faced with an urgent question: Is there a place for me here, or will I always be seen as the other?
